March Edition 2012

The word for the 2012 golf season at the Manson Golf Course is definitely change. On the board, we have a new president.  Brad Hoefing has graciously accepted this responsibility and all of the time it can require.  I look for Brad to be very active and provide excellent leadership for our course.  We also welcome new board member Troy Essing who joins George Lawman, Randy Besch, Jason Jones, Paul Mogeson and former president, Brett Bianchi.  For the first time in many years we will have a change in our clubhouse management. Whitni Warnke will take over the reins for this year after working with Patsy and Donna the past couple of years.  Working along with Whitni will be Ellen Partlow who has significant experience in the restaurant field and is excited to contribute new ideas to our lunch menu and for dining related to our couples fun night and tournaments.  The course superintendents have not changed and we are very fortunate to once again have the team of Todd Partlow and Larry Freese back as greens-keepers.

Unlike the past several years, we are only in mid March and there is no sign of snow to be seen anywhere. With some recent rains and warmer weather, it seems to be serving up a much earlier golf season.  This is allowing a very early celebration on St. Patricks day, Saturday, March 17th.  One of our most supportive members, Lu Richardson, will be celebrating a special birthday that evening in the clubhouse.  Come on out and get the clubhouse off to a great start and to wish Lu happy birthday.

The clubhouse opens daily on April 1 with weekends up and running in March as weather allows. The season gets going early with the MNW Golf team's first meet set for April 5th.  A few days later we host our annual spring membership party on Saturday, April 7th. As usual, we will have door prizes available for those that pay half of their membership by that evening. The half price membership discount is still available for first time members.  And for the 2012 season the board has extended this to anyone that has NOT been a member for at least 5 years.  So if you have not been a member since 2006 this discount will apply. We do have the capability of verifying this if you are unsure. These discounts do not apply to student or college memberships.  This evening is key for the getting the club off to a good start for the remainder of the season.  Karaoke will be the entertainment once again with the club providing a main entree and many of you pitching in with your favorite side dishes.  And as I repeatedly state - YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE A MEMBER TO COME TO THE PARTY or to simply socialize out at the clubhouse at any time for that matter.

Many golf courses around the area are struggling to survive and to even remain open for the 2012 season. We are hoping we can continue to buck the trend and keep a nice influx of new members each year.  Our golf course is a tremendous benefit to our community and school. We are also excited about the continued planning of the development just to the north of the golf course.  Hopefully all of those homes will have golf cart garages incorporated into their construction!

There are no tournaments until May, but I will have the Monday Night League sign up at the clubhouse as soon as possible.  This will start the first week in June and will continue with our very popular two person best shot format.  Teams can consist of guys, gals or a mixed set.  The format is handicapped and offers a very flexible format.  Whitni did a great job of preparing great eats for us on Monday nights and we look forward to that once again.

Everyone enjoy the great weather!
