Country Club Corner
March Edition

Let me first state that I have never been so jealous
of those of you that spent some quality time down South this year, regardless of
where it was at.
Old man winter was viciously awakened last fall and
has produced one of our longest winters in recent history. We are all usually
looking forward to the opening of the clubhouse, but it seems much more so this
year.
This is hopefully setting the stage for a very
successful opening spring party at the clubhouse this Saturday. A potluck meal
will begin around 6:00 p.m.
with maid-rites provided by the clubhouse. Happy
hour will commence at 5:00 p.m. Later on in the evening we will be entertained
by GT Karaoke and anyone brave enough to display there Karaoke Idol abilities.
Gary also plays a lot of good dance music aside from the karaoke. As you may
have seen posted on the sign by NAPA, EVERYONE is invited to this event. You do
not have to be a member to come on out to the clubhouse and enjoy the fun. This
is true for not only that night but anytime the clubhouse is open. However,
those that do become members that evening will be eligible for door prizes to be
drawn that night. As has been in the past, all new members receive a 50%
discount on the first years membership.
I would like to welcome two new board members this
year. They are Doug Abens and Rusty Caquelin. The newly elected president for
the 2008 season is Brett Bianchi. Patsy Sick and Donna Kirkhart are back to
manage the clubhouse and Jeff Laughlin returns for his third season as
greens-keeper. We urge you all to check out our web site at
www.golfmanson.com. We
are very fortunate to have fellow board member George Lawman continue to evolve
the site initially created by past board member Steve Pelz. On that site you
will find information on the course, a current events calendar, tournament
listing, league information and many other items of interest.
One last item to note involves league. Last year we
changed up the format and went to a two person team league. This year we are
going to take it a step further and make it a two person best shot. Best shots
have long been popular at the course for tournaments and it seemed logical to
carry on with that.
This should speed up play on league night and also
make it much less intimidating for the higher handicap golfers. One of the
important changes taking place is that there will not be a schedule of teams to
play. Instead, all teams will battle for points each league night based on
where they place among all the teams that compete that particular night. This
will still be a handicapped league and we should be able to implement a league
tournament in August as has been custom in past years of play. We still have
some wrinkles to iron out as to whether each team will be allowed to have a sub
or not.
Since all teams are simply playing for points each
week, it is not as critical to be there each and every week since a scheduled
match would not be taking place.
Hopefully some additional information will be posted
in the clubhouse by the party this weekend. We look forward to seeing all of
our friends on Saturday. Even if you have something going on earlier in the
evening, it is never too
late to make it out for this event.
