Country Club Corner
April Edition

In regards to spring arriving it reminds me of a
classic line by Judge Smails from the movie "Caddyshack" in which he proclaims
"WELL, WE'RE WAITING". At least the weather has been decent the last couple of
Wednesdays and looks to be a good one this week. We don't want to discuss the
forecast for this weekend which looks pretty dismal again.
Rewinding the clock back to the end of March we can
report a very successful spring membership party. It was obvious that everyone
was ready for a golf get together regardless of how miserable the weather was
outside. We have already had several new members sign up for this year which is
always a positive sign. As has become custom, Gary Taylor with GT Karaoke
provided the entertainment that evening. We would like to thank all of the
business that donated items for door prizes that evening. Check out our website
at
www.golfmanson.com to see
pictures of the party.
The following two weekends we had two birthday
bashes at the clubhouse. The first was a 30th birthday celebration for fellow
board member George Lawman.
The clubhouse was nearly as packed as for the spring
party. Entertainment that evening was provided by a the "Locals" which consists
of Matt Weishaar and Jesse Bianchi.
The following week we had another 30th birthday
celebration with this time Carrie Pelz the celebrant. Thank goodness for these
outings as there simply has not been much traffic on the golf course.
The first tournament of the year was held a few
weeks ago. It was a two person best shot and after a chilly first round the sun
did come out and provide ample ammunition for my first sun burn of the year. I
quickly remembered why I wear hats while outside and not visors!
Surprisingly we had a lot of outsiders play in that
tournament. There were approximately 28 teams in the tournament which was a
good turnout considering the conditions at tee time. There was a tie for first
place with 67's. They were the Kirtpatrick/Flury and Callon/Ruth groups. Third
place in the championship flight were Sorenson/Balde. First flight winners were
Tuel/Dornon, Rungle/Anderson and Sweeney/Coleman. Second flight winners were
Rost/Lawman, Jurries/Montgomery and Koester/Miller. The next tournament is a
four person best shot this Saturday, May 3rd with a shot gun start.
The first scheduled couples night is this Friday,
but we will see what old man winter has to say about that. During the month of
May every couples night is open to all members/non-members regardless of whether
you live in Manson or not. We want to provide anyone who is interested a chance
to play on Friday night to experience how fun this social event is. Green fees
are only six bucks per couple. If you don't have a cart I would strongly suggest
calling ahead of time to reserve a cart. It is a fun night and a great way to
meet new people in this community. The last Friday in May will feature live
entertainment following golf. As with our men's stags, the grill is on to cook
up steaks out on the patio following golf. All the fixings are ready for you
inside after cooking your steak to your liking. We all know that the indoors
smoking ban will be here before you know it and the golf course will be a great
place to enjoy yourself during the summer with a large concrete patio and plenty
of seating.
I can't stress enough at the beginning of each
season that you are NOT required to be a member to socialize at the clubhouse.
For example, even if you don't golf at Men's stag, you can still come out and
enjoy the food and spirits. During the week the clubhouse is open for lunch and
a happy hour is in effect each day as well. For more information on our course
please visit
www.golfmanson.com.
Everyone have a great week! Oh, one last item, the sign up sheet is up for the
two person best shot league. This is truly a one of a kind league and we are
hoping we can get many of you signed up for it.
Up to four people can sign up per team. Each Monday
you only need to have two players there to compete for points that evening. This
should overcome the barrier of having to be there every Monday. The scores will
be handicapped and will vary depending on what team members show up that
evening.
Once again, it is not required to be a member to play in league.
Green fees will be $5.00 that evening as they are with our stag nights. For more
information please stop at the clubhouse. Ok, now that is it.
