April Edition 2010

Now I know we live in Iowa and are accustomed to the 360 degree changes in weather, but the last month has been simply incredible. Just when we thought that snow would never leave, it is all gone before March even departs.  This was very fortunate given the outings scheduled at the clubhouse early this year.  Although the course has only been officially open only a few weeks we have already hosted a wedding reception (congratulations Tom and Pam Anderson), bridal shower (Erryn Warnke), an anniversary party (Paul and Doris Pelz, and a surprise 40th birthday party celebration (Now that was a rocking birthday party John Schossow). Due to the limited areas in towns to host such events we have been more than happy to be a part of these celebrations.

I am happy to report that the course has come through the winter in very good shape. The thick blanket of snow on the greens caused no problems and in fact probably protected them from the cold weather.  They are already in peak season condition.  Our first tournament of the young season will take place Sunday, April 25th.  This is a two person best shot with a noon shotgun start.  Then in May there is a four person best shot on Saturday, May 8th.  At last count there were 4 graduating Cougars with their parties being held at the clubhouse.

Couples night commences the first Friday in May and every couples night in May is open golf to all.  If not a member the charge is only $10.00 per couple and that includes your green fees and fun money for the evening. If you haven't experienced our couples night previously, this is a wonderful opportunity to give it a try.  The golf is fun, but the socializing that takes place while playing is really what makes it a good time.

Our two person best shot league begins once again on the first Monday in June.  If we have anywhere the increase to it as we did last year it should be a great year once again for league.  Everyone seems to love the best shot format and there is tremendous flexibility which seems to be another important factor in its success.  Sign up sheets are in the clubhouse near the computer area.  As the name indicates, this is a two person format.  So teams could consist of couples, men or women. If anyone has any questions relating to league, please let me know.

I almost forgot our most important event of the season.  This would be the spring party taking place this Saturday, April 17th.  Happy hour takes place at 5:00, potluck beginning at 6:00 and then karaoke provided by GT Karaoke shortly after. Gary also plays a lot of fun dance music as well.  Whether you are a current member or not, please feel welcome to come out and have a great time.  Anyone who does become a member by that evening and pay 50% of their dues is eligible for door prizes.  Remember, first time members receive a discount of 50% on their membership dues.

One last item is related to golf carts.  This is the time of year where everyone is getting them cleaned up, serviced, etc. and they seem to be everywhere.  If may behove you to discuss your liability coverage as it relates to your cart with your insurance professional.  Most homeowners policies do provide liability coverage for driving on your premise and also while on a golf course.  The problem occurs while driving down the street to get to the golf course.  You usually need to have a special endorsement for this on your auto or homeowners policy or carry a separate policy for this exposure.  You also normally do not have any coverage for damage to the golf cart itself unless specified on these endorsements of policies.  Don't wait until you have an issue before discussing with your agent.  If you do not store your cart at the course and drive back and forth from your home regularly then you really need to be careful with this.

Well, that is enough for insurance 101.  Everyone enjoy the spring and we hope to see as many of you as possible at the spring party on the 17th!
