June Edition

By Randy Besch - Published in the Calhoun County Journal-Herald

This probably won't get read until after it is done, but the men's stag rib feed is Wednesday, June 18th.  Golf is open to all including those living here in Manson and not currently members.  Even if you don't golf, come out for the delicious ribs that will be slow cooked all day Wednesday by Bill Krebs and his crew.

Somehow we have missed some of the recent heavy rains and the course is looking in good condition again.  We are very fortunate considering most of the area courses have been under water for the past several weeks.

The most recent tournament update is the 8" cup tournament held on June 7th.  This continues to be a popular tournament that was cut short to a 9 hole tournament due to severe thunderstorms that rolled through that evening.  Tying for first in the championship flight was Brad Huseman and Bill Huseman with 28's.  Brad took first on the tie-breaker.  Third place with a 29 to local golfer Brad Hoefing and 4th place to former Mansonite Justin Smith at 30.

1st Flight:  Tony Lawler 32, Dean Whaley 32, Kevin Stiles 32, Mark Messerly 32.

2nd Flight:  Shawn Hood 34, Shawn Collins 34, Ben Long 34, Bob Roest 35.

3rd Flight:  Randy Besch 36, Dean Fox 36, Dan Culver 36, Jeff Laughlin 36.

4th Flight:  Tom Walsh 39, Dic Fitzgerald 39, Brett Bianchi 39, Jeremy Griffel 39.

The two person best shot league began on Monday, June 2nd.  We have 16 teams competing this year and it seems to be going very well so far.  Low gross score for the first week was Neal Miller/David George with a 31, which also won first flight.  Second flight went to Greg Moore and Wayne Green with a 35. Third flight to Todd Williams/Matt Kittleson with a 37 and 4th flight to Dallas Scott and Bernie Rost with a 39.  In future weeks the scores will be handicapped.  We also had flag event winners for teams golfing that evening.

Long Drive #2 - Neal Miller

Closest to Pin # 4 - Dallas Scott

Longest Putt #6 - Lu Richardson

Closest to 100 yd marker #9 - Greg Moore Closest to #5 in two shots - Brad Hoefing

Upcoming events include the Manson Open this Saturday, June 21st.  Please contact the clubhouse for tee times if interested.  There is also a three person best shot on Saturday, July 5th.

On crater days weekend we have two class reunions getting together at the clubhouse.  Saturday afternoon is the class of 1948 with the class of 2003 following in the evening.  Think there is a little contrast in music with those groups.

Also on crater days weekend the Manson Sharks 5th/6th grade football team will be hosting a brunch on Sunday morning out at the golf course.  Please come out to support this cause and enjoy great food as well.

The golf season has been off to a slow start, but improving weather should get things turned around.  Everyone have a great summer!
